Northumberland has an estimated population of 310,600.  Much of the area is rural and due to the moorlands, tourisum mainly those who like wildlife and walking visit the area.  Northumberland was the birthplace of George Stevenson in 1781 and more recently, Pete Doherty (Musician) and Alexanda Armstrong (comedian).
